More Than $236,000 in Grants Awarded to Local and Regional Organizations in 2018
BWF Expansion Includes Planet Roo and Mission that Supports Social Impact and Human Interest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --June 3, 2019--Bonnaroo Works Fund(BWF), the charitable arm of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, announced today the opening of the 2019 grant cycle and an expansion of its mission and programming. The Fund will begin accepting online grant applications on June 1, and the deadline for applications is August 30. The application process and distribution of funds is coordinated by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, and applications can be found here. BWF has also added expanded its areas of focus and will now oversee Planet Roo, the festival's haven of sustainability and global consciousness. 

The core values of the Bonnaroo Works Fund now include community, creativity and positive influence, and The Fund champions those changing the world through social impact, human development and community inspiration. Through on-site festival resources and a growing year-round culture, BWF collaborates and supports local, regional and national nonprofit partners that are doing incredible things to benefit the arts, education, sustainability and social significance. 
“BWF’s growing mission will better align with the soul of the festival,” said Kelsey Dewald, BWF executive director. “Our newly launched digital channels will provide a platform for promotional support for our nonprofit partners and for Bonnaroo fans anxious to radiate positivity back into the community on a more consistent basis.” 
Beginning with the 2019 festival, BWF will also bring Planet Roo under its umbrella, creating an epicenter of activism and community generosity. Fans can expect much of their Planet Roo experience to be similar to previous years with some enhanced integration with BWF grantees and collaboration with Planet Roo nonprofit partners. The core goals of the Planet Roo footprint remain focused on human connection, development and inspiring fans to make a positive impact in the community and beyond. 
Established in 2009, BWF grants reflect the philanthropic commitment of festival founders, attendees, fans and partners, and since the festival’s inception, more than $7 million has been awarded to worthy causes by Bonnaroo Works Fund and Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Last year, BWF awarded more than $236,000 in grants that were distributed to deserving Tennessee-based organizations such as Coffee County Central High School, Habitat for Humanity of Rutherford County and Joy of Music School. Past recipients of BWF grants include a broad range of organizations, including the Coffee County Chamber of Commerce, the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum, First Book, Music Rising, National Museum of African American Music, Notes for Notes and the Land Trust For Tennessee.
The BWF is funded through several festival channels. A portion of proceeds from Bonnaroo ticket sales is designated for BWF, and proceeds from attendee-supported festival activities including Silent Auction, Root for Roo, Bonnaroo 5K Run and the Buck Up program through the merchandise tent benefit BWF. A new partnership with Propeller, a community where members earn points for doing good and completing socially-conscious actions, will support the fund and provide pre and post event experiences for attendees including the chance to win airfare and VIP festival tickets, stage-side viewing during headlining sets and meet-and-greets with artists. A private-blend coffee collaboration with 8th & Roast, one of Nashville’s most well known and loved coffee shops, will support The Fund and will be available for purchase in the new Roo Works Cafe and at 8th & Roast locations throughout Nashville.
